Due to a fertile valley, huge number of springs and close proximity to sea Konavle region has a rich continuity of life that can be traced from prehistory. On the area of Konavle region can be found more than 100 prehistoric Illyrian stone piles, amongst which the most prominent one is situated in the village Mikulići. Bronze or Iron Age grave originated by casting breakable and untreated lime stones above the grave. It resulted into a stone pile of 45 m in diameter and 6,60 m in height. Since the top is flattened it is assumed that the pile was originally even higher. In the nearby vicinity is a large hill named Gradac (literally: hillfort) which might be a settlement to which this stone pile belonged.
