On Thursday, February 17, in House Bukovac, a lecture on carnival tradition in Cavtat was held. Museum pedagogue Petra Kralj Fox introduced the visitors to the vast history of carnival tradition in Cavtat, emphasizing some forgotten customs that are no longer part of the carnival calendar. For example, she mentioned the so-called Pucanje lopižica which was interestingly held after the end of all carnival events, during Lent.
Although still remembered by our elderly members of the community, the custom of burning the Carnival is one of the many carnival performances that has not been revived since the War of Independence (1991).
Thanks to the children’s educational workshops in the House Bukovac held during 2018 and 2019, the youngest were able to get acquainted with these 'forgotten’ and once unavoidable carnival customs. After the lecture, a very lively discussion developed amongst the visitors, about personal memories of the time when Cavtat was truly a carnival town.
