The last journey of Vlaho Bukovac

On Thursday, April 28, on the occasion of marking 2022 as the 100th anniversary of the death of Vlaho Bukovac, the senior curator of the Dubrovnik Museums, Lucija Vuković held a lecture entitled The last journey of Vlaho Bukovac, at the House Bukovac.

The lecturer presented the last works of Vlaho Bukovac created in 1922 in Belgrade and Ljubljana, and the short period after his death in which several commemorations were held. First respects were paid during the cremation ceremony at Olšany cemetery in Prague, while the main ceremony took place during his long trip back home, to the cemetery of St. Roch in Cavtat. Bukovac's remains, accompanied by his family, left Prague on September 27, 1922, and came to Cavtat on October 1, 1922. The main theme of the lecture was followed through two narratives: the perspective of the family, recorded in personal correspondence, and the handwritten text Memories of my father, written by Bukovac’s daughter Ivanka, as well as the public perspective, preserved through the press and commemorative speeches of the time.

Once again, we thank the Dubrovnik Museums for this cooperation.
