Konavle wedding ceremony is a rich and divers corpus of songs, customs and habits deeply connected with archaic elements and traditional Konavle life. It sustains elements that were transferred from religious content to secular, from urban to rural. It also carries archaic elements derived from pagan intangible that are still present today. Late 19th and early 20th century researchers documented many parts of the entire corpus in different explorations that were organised in Konavle region. Musical elements have been gathered by maestro Krešimir Magdić, the most significant expert for Konavle ethno musical forms.
Thanks to Mr Magdić’s musical concept a wedding ceremony is being revived in cooperation with Museums and galleries of Konavle. He is to restore and adjust, from elements and parts a complete music form for future performing.
We wish to offer rich folk material for local folk enthusiasts to enrich their performing and a new way of presenting rich Konavle intangible. Museums and galleries of Konavle nominated Konavle wedding toast as a protected intangible heritage of the Republic of Croatia because of its uniqueness and survival till today.
Part of the project is the incoming exhibition on Konavle wedding in summer 2019.
