At the University of Dubrovnik and in the Konavle County museum, from 17th to 21st of September 2018, the International Conservation project 4 Universities 4 Konavle – Implementing Collection Care was organised.
The project was organized by the University of Dubrovnik and three partner universities: University of Applied Arts Vienna (Austria), University of Technology, Arts, Sciences, CICS - Cologne (Germany) and the Hungarian University of Fine Arts (Hungary) in cooperation with the Museums and Galleries of Konavle.
From each of these universities there were 2 to 4 students, who were under the guidance of experienced experts developing measures to protect, preserve and present our rich cultural heritage in accordance with the principles of the conservation and restoration profession.
Friday the 21st of September, from 9 am till 13 pm, scientists, experts and students invited media representatives to the Konavle county museum to attend group works to preserve our cultural heritage.
The aim of this project is to point out the general importance of involving and uniting local community, universities and international institutions in the common objective of preserving heritage that represents the cultural identity of our region, whose values need to be preserved for future generation.
The project was created based on a highly positive experience of the Erasmus exchange of experts and students in the field of conservation-textile restoration. As such, the project represents the first International project for the protection of textile works in cooperation between experts from domestic and foreign universities.
The Konavle county museum, which operates within the institution of Museums and galleries of Konavle preserves the rich ethnographic collections of authentic traditional artefacts of Konavle region. Special part of a permanent collection holds the legacy of the Cavtat Association of Embroiderers (1922-1946).
