On Monday, March 9th at 6 pm at the Konavle County Museum on the occasion of the birthday anniversary of the great Croatian ethnologist Katica Benc Bošković (1927 - 2006) a joint viewing of old slides, led by Antonia Rusković Radonić the Director of Museums and Galleries of Konavle was organized.
Katica Benc Bošković was born in Konavle not far from our Konavle County Museum, precisely in the Bošković family, Čilipi. Thanks to her work on the processing and documentation of Konavle heritage, as well as her efforts to form the first collection of the Konavle County Museum and researches through Konavle, the region became recognizable with its distinctive material in the diverse Croatian corpus of ethnographic heritage.
In the course of her field research, she produced photographic documentation, which is now largely part of the collections of the Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb, while the Konavle County Museum recently became the owner of the old slides that she took while documenting the Konavle region. The slides were acquired to the Museum through the kindness of a family heir. To be precise 100 slides of Konavle's landscapes, blueprints, paintings, local people and everyday life, were presented to the public in a celebratory form, with tea and cookies.
During the presentation about Katica Benc Bošković's life and work, her family members as well as people who knew her complemented the presentation with their comments and insights. The contribution of the participants was exceptional while watching the slides as well. In other words, the slides we were reviewing were parts of her research through Konavle without any information about the time and the detailed location. Thus, during the presentation, the older participants remembered the people who were no longer present, as well as the spaces that were altered by today's new constructions.
At the conclusion of this wonderful presentation, the Director once again thanked all those who donated material to our museum and thus made this meeting possible.
