This year we celebrate the 100th anniversary of the foundation of the Embroidery Association Cavtat, which operated in Cavtat until the end of the Second World War. The Association was founded by a teacher and famous collector of traditional embroidery, Jelka Miš (1875 – 1956). The Association was formed in order to bring together embroiderers and to preserve traditional folk art, but also at the same time to foster the idea of developing home crafts among local women. For the work of her Association, Jelka Miš collected the largest number of samples from the entire Balkan area, which today are part of the collection at the Konavle County Museum. As a part of this year’s European Heritage Days, and symbolically on the eve of Jelka Miš’s birthday, on Saturday, October 1 at 6 PM, we marked the centenary of the foundation with an appropriate presentation held by museum pedagogue Maris Stanović.
