Presentation of Anka Duper’s book: Return – Records of Exile

The Society of Dubrovnik Writers, in cooperation with the Museums and Galleries of Konavle, organized the presentation of Anka Duper’s book Return – Records of Exile, which took place on Saturday, October 22, at the House Bukovac. The book was presented by writer and president of the Society, Boris Njavro, professor of the Croatian language Tajana Martić, and cinematographer and director Nikola Duper, who is also a son of the author.

The book was created from the records of Nikola’s mother Anka, i.e. the diary she kept during the Croatian War of Independence. These were notes on envelopes, pieces of paper that she later copied into a notebook and ultimately, onto the computer.

Anka Duper completed primary school in Cavtat, as well as a secondary vocational school. In 1960, she married Petar Duper in Mlini. She worked in Mlini Hotel until her retirement, and then she started writing her memories from the past, recording how life was in her childhood and youth. In addition to memories from the past, she also published a diary from the Croatian War of Independence. As a memory of a beloved mother and friend, the website (www.anka.duper.org/) continues to be managed by her son Nikola.

Museums and galleries of Konavle consist of the:

Konavle County Museum, House Bukovac, Department of Archaeology and Račić Mausoleum.
