Konavle kaleidoscope – exhibition opening at the Konavle County Museum

Saint Nicholas Day is a great day for the people in Čilipi, but this year also for all Konavle embroiderers. On Tuesday, December 6, at 6 pm, the exhibition Konavle Kaleidoscope will be opened in the Konavle County Museum. The exhibition presents the compositions of Konavle embroidery, made from 2015 to 2022 as part of the Konavle embroidery workshops, which were held with the aim of preserving the art of making Konavle embroidery. Namely, the Konavle embroidery is one of the few embroidered fabrics that are on the list of protected intangible assets of the Republic of Croatia. It earned that place with its default structure of embroidered elements and uniform body of patterns. In addition, the technical features of the Konavle embroidery are aligned with the traditional function of the object. Thus, the Konavle embroidery is one of the few embroideries in which visual communication was maintained until the 21st century. However, today, embroidery is not made for clothes, but out of love and a desire for preservation. Since 2015, Konavle has been flooded with new, high-quality works that, in all their elements, maintain craftsmanship and speak of a contemporary relationship to heritage in Konavle.

With the exhibition Konavle Kaleidoscope, Konavle becomes an example of added value that has developed through the protection of craftsmanship and a modern attitude toward the preservation of tradition.

It will be an honor for us to make this Konavle fest greater with your arrival!

Museums and galleries of Konavle consist of the:

Konavle County Museum, House Bukovac, Department of Archaeology and Račić Mausoleum.
